Wow, this is incredible! I imagine I am in a far-away Arabian desert? No, this is much closer and convenient – it is The Sand Dunes. After familiarizing myself with the four-wheeler I entered into a world of red sand. Within minutes from the red sand beach of Sand Hollow I was zipping up and down the red sand in my four-wheeler on the dunes for miles and miles leaving the blue water and red rocks of Sand Hollow Lake and Dixie Springs behind me.

My grandson, Jacob, raced ahead to explore – the younger ones followed. As I raced among them I thought of this ‘iron’ horse I was riding and compared it to the horse I rode as a young man. This is different and quite exhilarating! Racing up the dunes and then down only to find another to race up. From under the visor of my helmet I sometimes glimpsed the blue sky and at other times the blue water of Sand Hollow lake in the distance. Quite the wonder and exciting realizing it is a very close neighbor to DIXIE SPRINGS.

I maneuvered the four-wheeled horses over hill and dale to reach our destination. The view was spectacular from the sand dunes on the other side of the mountain and well worth the sixteen mile travel through the sand. Now, before this cowboy runs out of gas – in more ways than one – I have to return across my imaginary far-away desert back to Dixie Springs.
